The beginning of Mobile in Nepal

Mobile GSM has a history of 22 years in Nepal. The trial of GSM mobile started on 1st Baisakh, 2056 BS, and the distribution of postpaid mobiles was formally started on 30th of Baisakh, 2056 BS.
The first generation of mobile Nortel companies to enter Nepal in the first phase, namely 1G, was limited to the upper class and the elite because it was so expensive that it was out of reach for everyone. The then Nepal Telecommunication Corporation (now Nepal Telecom) had launched prepaid mobile on Bhadra 6, 2060 BS. Previously, only postpaid was in operation.

After the government transformed the Nepali Telecommunication Corporation into Nepal Telecom in 2061 BS, mobile service in Nepal gained momentum and Nepal Telecom launched CDMA service in the same year which made it much easier to operate mobile service in the high hill area of Nepal.

You may not believe that it costs money not only to make a phone call but also to pick up a mobile phone. Incoming calls were made for free from 23rd Jeth, 2062 B.S. Before that, you had to pay for the phone you picked up.
When the then Spice Nepal (now Ncell) entered the exclusive mobile service, it can be said that the mobile service took a leap in Nepal because it was very difficult to get a SIM card from Nepal Telecom in the past. The common man had applied for up to 5,000 SIMs. . When Mero Mobile (Ncell) started giving SIM cards in Nepal at 1 thousand people get an alternative to Nepal Telecom.

At that time, Mero Mobile started distributing second generation mobiles and launched Mobile Internet GPRS (General Public Radio Service) which allowed Nepali users to use new technology in Nepal. Earlier Mobile number was the nine-digit number. Made from 10 digits in 1st Baisakh 2061 B.S.

Nepal Telecom had started testing the third generation 3G service from 3rd Jeth, 2064 BS. Mobile coverage Mobile service had to wait till 2065 BS in 77 districts.

The fourth generation, i.e. 4G, started in Nepal in 2073 BS. The 4G service, which was launched only in postpaid in the month of Push 2073 BS, was given in prepaid only after one month. 4G is a mobile telecommunication technology under the developed network of 3G. The 4G system provides facilities as defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The service also includes mobile web access, IP telephony, gaming services, high definition mobile TV, video conferencing, 3D television, and cloud computing.
