Now it is possible to pay dollars from Nepal for digital platforms including Amazon and Netflix. Yesterday NRB open online international Payment of Amazon Prime and Netflix from Nepal.

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced that even if you do not have a dollar account, you can pay up to $500 annually by taking prepaid cards from Class A and B banks.

Earlier, it was possible to pay dollars abroad only because of having a dollar account. But now you can spend up to $ 500 by making prepaid cards through Nepali banks.

According to NRB, the new arrangement has been implemented after there was difficulty in paying the amount due to import of foreign services and goods. In addition, commercial banks and development banks will be able to issue prepaid cards worth $500 to customers.

Through which social media and other online transactions can be paid in dollars. According to the authority issued by the National Bank on Sunday, the convertible foreign currency prepaid card can be taken by any person, firm, company or institution.

For that, NRB has stated that such card can be issued by exchanging Nepali rupee in the bank account of the concerned person, firm, company or institution. When issuing such card, a maximum of USD 500 or equivalent convertible foreign currency can be deposited based on the exchange rate on the day of issuance of the card.

However, the user must have a mandatory permanent account number (PAN) when issuing the card. It is also mentioned that the customer identification details of the concerned user should be updated.

The card allows users to purchase goods online overseas, pay for platforms such as Amazon and Netflix, or pay for digital advertising through Google and Facebook.

Thus, while issuing prepaid cards, banks will have to make it mandatory for customers to declare that they have not availed the facility from other banks and development banks. This means that this facility cannot be availed from more than one bank.

If the customer is found to have used such facility from more than one bank, action will be taken as per the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, 2019.
