New Driving License with barcode in Nepal
The Department of Transportation Nepal is going to issue a new Nepal Driving license using a QR code for those who have passed the exam of driver’s license. Next the fiscal year 2078/79 The Department of Transportation is about to issue a different card with a QR code for the first one-year period after passing the trial.
Earlier, preparations were made to issue such a card from Jeth, but it was postponed for 3 months due to the lockdown. Nawaraj Ghimire Director-General of the department informed that a separate license card with a QR code is being introduced and it can be implemented for a trial period of one year for a trial period.
According to him, the driver who has passed the trial will be given a smart license only after one year and a license with a QR code will be issued for that period.
Traffic police will check the driver’s license based on the QR code and got the all information about the driver, he said, “Traffic will know all the necessary details of the driver from QR Code scanning.”
The transportation department believes that such a card will reduce traffic violations in Kathmandu and other cities of Nepal. Earlier Traffic police have made more than five holes in the card and they can not get the license again.
Along with this, the transportation department will now distribute two types of driver’s licenses. Provisional period will be provided to the drivers who have passed the trial and smart driver’s license will be distributed to the drivers who have passed the trial period.
He said, ‘PVC cards do not have a chip like a smart license. PVC cards have a bar code. The barcode contains all the details of the driver. ‘After scanning the bar code in the Nepal Driving license, the traffic police find out whether the license is fake or genuine.

In some cases, the license holder gives his license to another person to drive because the blurred image on the license, it also solves the QR code execution in license.
Similarly, such cards will be distributed to the persons who have applied for renewal of driver’s license till they get a new smart license.
Ghimire said that it was not a trial period due to the use of chips in smart cards. The Nepal Driving license cards will be distributed from 19 offices of the Department of Transport Management across the country including Kathmandu from Shrawan 1st.
